Revelation Chapter 3
Word of the Month
April “Soul Food”
Dear CBF Family,
As the season makes its transition, there is a great anticipation in the air. Spring, its warmth, and the life that it reveals, will be welcomed by many who have endured the uniqueness of winter.
Speaking of change and being refreshed, our attention must shift to our next assignment – reading and studying the Word of God. Colossians 1:1-29 will be our focus for this month for the purpose of gaining deeper insight, understanding, and growth, resulting in productivity.
As we focus our attention on Colossians 1:1-29, Let us again distinguish ourselves by sharpening our observational skills with a sense of excellence, and disciplining ourselves by showing due-diligence by going deeper into the word of God.
Let us discipline ourselves in designating a specific time and place to read, observe, and learn; let us distinguish ourselves by placing a great emphasis on reading thoroughly, memorizing carefully, practicing intentionally, obeying willingly, and living wisely – especially as the day grows closer for our Lord’s inevitable return.
Consider these leading questions
- According to v. 3,
what were the two things Paul did in response to hearing the status of he Colossian believers? - According to v. 4,
what were the two significant signs of their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? - According to vs. 9-12 there are at least eight things that Paul prayed for.
What are they? - According to v. 15,
what is the proof that Christ is God? - According to v. 13 & 14,
what is the specific impact of Christ becoming man and dying for our sins?
Don’t forget to memorize at least three verses and be willing to share with us during morning worship
March Soul Food
Dear CBF Family,
Those of us who are still standing after February’s character-building experience, realize that making decisions in the middle of hazardous, climatic circumstances demands clarity of thought, purpose, and decisive action. For the record, it’s not over yet.
There is another decision we have to make as we enter a new month – another chapter in the Word of God. Again, let us change our focus of reading; and I would encourage you begin to read Acts 16:1-40 for the purpose of gaining deeper insight, understanding, and growth, resulting in productivity.
As we focus our attention on Acts 16:1-40, let us distinguish ourselves by sharpening our observational skills with a sense of excellence. Disciplining ourselves by showing due-diligence by going deeper into the Word of God. Designate a specific time and place to read, observe, and learn.
Consider these leading questions:
- What verses address an important appeal to Paul, and what was his response?
- What verses deal with Paul being very irritated with attention drawn to him; and what was his
response? - According to verses 19-24,
what was the reaction of the crowd to Paul and Silas’
actions? - What verses described Paul and Silas’ response to being beaten and thrown into
prison? - What verses reveal God’s intervention and ultimate outcome, to the glory of God?
Don’t forget to memorize at least three verses and be willing to share with us during morning worship
February “Soul Food”
Dear CBF Family,
While in the transitional pattern of the season, this winter in Chicago has given us a reality check; it keeps us alert to the present, anticipating the future, and maintaining wisdom to make the necessary adjustments as needed.
This is the time to make the necessary adjustments to our reading; and I would encourage you to consider the book of Acts for the purpose of insight, understanding, growth, and productivity.
This month, we turn our attention to Acts 13:1-51
Let us continue to distinguish ourselves by sharping our observational skills with a sense of excellence and, disciplining ourselves by showing due-diligence by going deeper into the word of God.
Place a great emphasis on:
- reading thoroughly
- memorizing carefully
- practicing intentionally
- obeying willingly
- living wisely
The day grows closer for our Lord’s inevitable return.
Consider these leading questions:
- According to vs. 1-2,
how were Barnabas and Paul paired for ministry? - According to vs. 5-12,
who was also with Paul and Barnabas; and what was their first challenge? - According to the warning shared with those in the synagogue in verses 36-43,
what was the favorable response of many of the hearers? - What made the Gentiles happy and glorify God?
- According to vs. 50-52,
what was the response to Paul and Barnabas by the Jews?
Don’t forget to memorize at least three verses and be willing to share with us during morning worship

January “Soul Food”
Dear CBF Family,
In Gods creative wisdom in doing things, there is a time for everything; changes in days, months, years, and even seasons. He has also enabled us to make adjustments in things we do to keep things fresh, functional, and productive.
It is time again to change the attention of our reading, and I would encourage you to consider the book of Acts 2:1-47
for the purpose of insight, understanding, growth, and productivity.
Let us distinguish ourselves by sharpening our observational skills with a sense of excellence and disciplining ourselves by showing due-diligence by going deeper into the word of God.
Place a great emphasis on:
- reading thoroughly
- memorizing carefully
- practicing intentionally
- obeying willingly
- living wisely
The day grows closer for our Lord’s inevitable return.
Consider these leading questions:
- According to Acts 2:14-21:
Why was Peter quoting the book of Joel? - Looking closely at Acts 2:1-4:
list five significant things that happened to those who were present? - According to Acts 2:41-45:
What was the impact of Peter’s address to the bewildered crowd who heard the speaking of tongues in their language and believed the message? - According to Acts 2:22 & 23:
What did Perter accuse his attentive audience of doing? - According to Acts 2:12 & 13:
What were the three responses of those who witnessed the tongues that were given?
Don’t forget to memorize at least three verses and be willing to share with us during morning worship
